Getting Involved

St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church serves a diverse group of people that ranges from traditional parishioners to our sisters and brothers who experience homelessness.  We have a specific outreach for all groups we serve, see links below for particular outreach that is offered.

+ Traditional Parishioners

St. John’s is made up of about 930 families some of which are traditional parishioners for the parish that help serve as Mass ministers on the weekends or engage in formation or catechsis programs of the parish.

Whether you are a new parishioner or have been here for years check out the following pages for upcoming events that may be of interest for you.  We are blessed to have you as part of our parish family.

+ Young Adults & College Students (ages 18-35)

In 2009 a new ministry began at St. John the Evangelist that focused on young adult and college camps ministry.  St. John’s became the parish home for the IUPUI Campus and also a hub for young adult ministry in the Archdiocese.  The 7pm Sunday evening Mass is a Mass ministered by all young adults.  If you are a young adult or college student come join us for an upcoming event.

+ Daily Mass Goers

Here at St. John’s we have a vibrant daily Mass crowd, mostly made up of those who work in downtown Indianapolis and attend daily Mass or confession over their lunch hour.  We offer daily confessions from 11:15am-12pm that is followed by daily Mass at 12:10pm.

+ Visitors

Since St. John’s is located across the street from the convention center and just blocks away from Lucas Oil Stadium and Bankers Life field house we receive many visitors in and through the sacred space of St. John’s.  During large conventions or events here in the heart of the city we offer tours of the church that focus both on the history of St. John’s but also on the teachings of the Catholic Church.  Schedule a tour with us today!

+ Homeless

As Catholics and Christians we have a call to have a preference for the poor.  Here at St. John’s we have the opportunity daily to serve our brothers and sisters who are homeless and live in the streets of downtown Indianapolis.  We offer a smile, love, and a food and drink daily to our homeless friends through our Garden Door Ministry.
